FOR THE WINNER

The winner will receive:

  • $50.00 Award from the Popular Fiction Association of Idaho, Inc.

  • free manuscript evaluation from an agent or editor attending Murder in the Grove

FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS

All participants will receive detailed scoring sheets on aspects of their submission such as characterization, dialogue, setting, plot and synopsis.

ENTRY RULES

1. Enter four (4) copies of no more than the first 20 pages of your mystery, thriller, suspense, romantic suspense, or paranormal mystery/suspense manuscript AND four (4) copies of a synopsis of no more than 5 pages, double spaced. Entries must represent the author's own, original book length work. Copies must be bound with a binder clip or paper clip. No rubber bands or loose page entries, please.

Note on manuscript formatting: one-inch margins, double-spaced 12-point type in either Times New Roman, Courier, or another highly readable font is acceptable. The synopsis should be formatted the same way. The entrant's name should not appear on the manuscript or synopsis pages, only on the entry form.

2. Entry form and submission deadline: must be postmarked by _____. Complete the Entry Form (click here) and include it with your manuscript.

RETURN ENVELOPES: Include a stamped self-addressed envelope for return of your scores and comments on your submission. If you'd like your entire submission returned, you will need to provide a large envelope with sufficient postage. If a sufficiently posted envelope is not included, the manuscript pages will be recycled. (Note that our judges are instructed to annotate the manuscript pages with comments and suggestions.)

3. Entry fee: $25.00.

Send a check or money order for $25.00 payable to PFAI, Inc. with your manuscript and entry form to the address shown on the form.

If you send more than one manuscript, a $25.00 entry fee must accompany each entry.

CONTEST IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING PERSONS:

Anyone not previously published in novel-length fiction (and has no work accepted for such publication as of the submission deadline). Published authors include those contracted with e-book and print-on-demand publishing houses.

All entrants must certify their published or unpublished status on the entry form. Unsigned forms will be disqualified.

If you have any questions on the eligibility of your entry, e-mail our Contest Coordinator.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST

Every effort will be made to use only PFAI-trained judges. There will be a limit of approximately eighty manuscripts accepted in this contest because of the limited number of trained judges. If we begin to approach the limit before the posted contest deadline, we will announce that on the website, and change the deadline, if necessary.

PFAI, Inc., is not responsible for lost or misdirected entries.
